RMA Automotive conversions provide Toyota Quantum with full-time 4WD functionality
This article has been supplied.
In a significant development for the local automotive conversion industry, RMA Automotive has extended its range of vehicle conversion solutions to include the Toyota Quantum all-wheel drive (4WD) conversion kit. Combining off-road capability with passenger safety and comfort, the 4WD conversion delivers enhanced traction, increased ground clearance and improved load capability, making vehicles suitable for challenging applications in mining and civil works, the tourism and education sectors, and emergency service assistance.
The Toyota Quantum conversion utilises a complete kit imported from EnduroCo Australia, a recognised leader in 4 x4 conversion technology. It provides full-time 4WD functionality with high and low range selection, controlled via OEM-style dash-mounted electronic switches. An electronic transfer case and centre differential lock ensure smooth and reliable operation in all terrain conditions while maintaining factory-grade integration with vehicle controls.
The conversion incorporates a re-engineered independent front suspension featuring heavy-duty steering knuckles, reinforced lower control arms, and uprated front coil springs. At the rear, heavy-duty leaf springs and upgraded shock absorbers provide durability under load and improve ride stability. Together, these upgrades deliver approximately 140–150 mm of lift over the factory configuration, improving approach and departure angles for off-road use.
Additional features include an underbody protection system and a bash plate with transfer case guard to shield critical components from impact or debris. The conversion also includes 17-inch black steel wheels with all-terrain tyres, providing traction and stability across variable surfaces.
For greater payload flexibility and safer vehicle operation in challenging terrain, the vehicle achieves a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 4,200 kg following conversion, representing an increase of approximately 700 kg over the standard Toyota specification. The Tare weight is 2,885 kg, with a maximum payload of up to 1,315 kg. Axle ratings are 2,000 kg for the front and 2,200 kg for the rear.
The 4WD conversion uses approximately 60% Toyota OEM parts, ensuring high reliability, national parts availability and simplified servicing. Converted vehicles are supported by warranty coverage of three years or 100,000 km, consistent with Toyota’s original terms.
RMA Automotive also offers a range of optional equipment for specific operational requirements, including:
- Snorkel system (with or without pre-cleaner)
- Bull bar and LED auxiliary lighting
- Manual or electric side step
- Rear step and protector
Additional protection and off-road accessories, such as wheel-arch flare kits, heavy-duty mudflaps, and upgraded tyres, can be added as required.
A demonstration vehicle will be on display at Automechanika Johannesburg 2025, taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 28-30 October.
